PHILIP GURREY lives and works in London, Canada. He holds a Ph.D. in Art and Visual Culture from Western University and an M.Litt and BA(Hons) in Fine Art Painting and Printmaking from the Glasgow School of Art. He is a Co-founder and the Creative Director of Artists on Artists an interview program which champions artistic research in Southern Ontario, he is a Professor of Fine Art at Fanshawe College, London and works for the London Arts Council in Programs and Learning. His work explores themes of translation and human/nonhuman ontologies through painting, installation, sound and text.

Gurrey has exhibited in the UK, Spain, France, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, Canada and the USA. Selected exhibits include Enclosures at Birch Contemporary, Toronto (2024), Ceremony at TatArt, Barcelona (2017), Reportrait at Nottingham Art Gallery (2017), Workings as part of Glasgow International Art Biennial (2016), War and Trauma at Museum Dr. Guislain, Belgium (2013), Stigmates at Fondation Francés, France (2012), Untitled at PippyHouldsworth Gallery, London (2011) and Ultrasonic III at Mark Moore Gallery, Los Angeles (2008). He has been the recipient of Ontario Graduate Scholarships, the British Airways Art Prize, the PULSE Art Prize in New York., Artist-Network grants and Creative Scotland funding.

He has worked as a lecturer, sessional lecturer and visiting artist in the UK, Canada and Denmark. He was a Co-founder and Program Director of the Glasgow Artists Guild (2014-2017) and he has work in public and private collections worldwide. Public collections include; The Mercer Art Gallery Collection, The Pathfoot Collection, the British Airways Collection and the Fondation Francés Collection in France.
